“Our air conditioning in our office has been broken for weeks now; what can the union do about that?”

“Is there a standard temperature for the USPS? Past few days the air conditioning was turned down and we were all sweating like animals. Rumor has it, management thinks we will race to get to the street if it’s hot. Total assholes.”

“Management did a Stand-up Talk; informing us that we don’t need that many bathroom breaks cause they get marked as stationary times; he mentioned how we just sweat out the water. - Do we need permission to use the bathroom?”'

"Management gave a Stand-up Talk saying carriers aren't allowed to wear UV protective / compression clothing anymore. How do we fight back against this?"

"Has anyone else been told this bullshit at a Stand-up Talk that we have to notify management when we take heat breaks, even if it’s a minute? I asked her “where is that written cause it isn’t in the contract?” Her reply was “it’s been a rules for years everywhere it just hasn’t been enforced here.”

“With less mail volume in the Summer; why isn’t our start times adjusted to come in earlier? Can we grieve this issue? link the heat related deaths and injuries?"

"What is this stupid no air conditioning law my supervisor is talking about? He said that we cannot have the air conditioning on unless it’s 78 or warmer in the office, yet a carrier died yesterday in the heat but we have to sweat in the office before we go to the street too something about some jimmy carter law can this be grieved?"

"We have no ice machine and managers aren't buying us water, what can the union do for the workers? Can we call OSHA?”

“Can I do a PS-Form 1767 for office not supplying water? They always have in the past. Was told that our bathroom sink and break room sink water is potable. Which I would never use. We have a water fountain but it’s never been maintained. With all these heat service talks you think they would be more cautious. Thanks and be safe out there.”

"Had a Stand-up Talk today while I was off. About one hour office time. I'm the union rep/ Steward in my office just looking for any advice on grieving this if they actually start pushing it. I know they had the talk today because they knew I'd say something."

"My boss approached me as I was coming back from checking my truck, said "there's no mail, you're getting a 30-minute pivot and you'll be back in 8". I'm stressing and don't want to disappoint him."

“We received a scanner message this morning stating: “Take your authorized breaks in a shady area if possible.” What does authorized breaks mean? Will I get in trouble if I don’t tell my manager I want to take a break? Do I need permission to take a break?

“I was told today by management that unless it's 110° I can't take additional comfort stops.”

"Is there a report I can request that indicates trucks usage on a particular day? Management is keeping ProMasters with air conditioning unused at the office while park & loop carriers use LLVs. I was thinking of filing on Article 14 by contending that, in doing so, management is not utilizing all available tools to mitigate (to the extent possible) the risks associated with heat illness/stress."

"Can I leave my line of travel / Can I leave my route to take my lunch inside a restaurant on a different route?”

“I told the manager in the morning I’ll be good with 8-hours; but with the heat and the parcels; I realized I needed more time. Management said delivery everything and be back at 8-hours; what do I do with what I have left?”

“I was notified today that my T6 was vomiting on my route on Wednesday. He stated that he was dizzy from the heat and he went back to the office. He said that management told him he couldn’t go home because they didn’t have anyone to cover for him. They allowed him to sit in the office for an hour and drink Gatorade and water but sent him back out. I have filed already on the HIPP training and it’s going to Formal A. What can I do now? This is so wrong. This is why people are dying. During the informal meeting, the first thing I pulled out were news reports of all the carriers that have died from the heat. I told them this is why we are here right now. I explained the circumstances with each, emphasizing the incident in independence, Missouri. I don’t want to see others dying, especially in my office. I have to do something. I can not let this go. Any and all help is appreciated. I am kinda new to writing grievances though.”

"Whenever I take a lunch, I get a call or text asking what I'm doing. How do they know I'm taking a lunch, can the union do anything to stop them from spying on me? It's too hot to keep skipping my lunch."

"I skip my breaks and lunches because I don't want to be the last one back to the office, but I always go home with a serious headache, I don't know what to do."

"They have me coming in at 10am and working till around 3pm. Boss says I don't get any breaks. I usually run out of water and also get dizzy. I don't want to see my hours reduced, advice?"

"On Thursday, after completing my route and an hour piece in this crazy heat, I had a god awful headache and was just feeling sick. I got back to the station at about 6:20 ish, and was told to go help at a station 20 mins away. (I am a CCA). I told the supervisor that I had a terrible headache and I was feeling ill, and I could not go, because I was going home. I was still sick on Friday, so I called in. On Saturday, I went to work and they said I need a Dr. Note. What?? No one else ever has to provide documentation, and there are people who call out ALL the time. What can I do here? I have spoke to my Steward, and he basically says this is b.s., but I wanted to get more info."

"If a carrier is experiencing heat related Illness while in route. Cannot make it back to station. Calls 911 for transportation to ER. Is this treated as on the job injury. Or is carrier responsible for time off medical bills etc?"

"If we get heat related illness or dehydration is that our insurance or workers comp?"

“City carrier reports heat related illnesses to immediate supervisor. Leaves on an ambulance to the hospital. When calling out does she use on the job condition? Next question would be is it considered a traumatic injury or occupational medical condition?”
